The Transformative Rhetoric of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt

  • The Morningside Institute 91 Claremont Avenue Floor 11 New York, NY, 10027 United States (map)

This session will mainly consider the role of Roosevelt’s First Inaugural Address (of March 4, 1933) in helping to preserve, and even to renew, American democracy in a time of economic crisis. We also consider, more briefly, how Roosevelt’s Second Inaugural Address (on January 20, 1937) sought to reshape America’s conception of the proper role of government.

On Monday, October 26, at 6 PM, join Morningside and Professor Michele Moody-Adams, former dean of Columbia College, for a dinner presentation on Roosevelt’s inaugurals.
