Literature Humanities discussion group

Overview

Join us for a discussion of the ideas covered in recent readings from Columbia’s Literary Humanities course and an exploration of how they relate to our own questions about life.

Columbia Philosophy professor Dhananjay Jagannathan, who teaches one of the sections of Literary Humanities, will lead the discussion.

We will be meeting at the offices of The Morningside Institute from 7:00-8:30pm. Dinner will be provided and any relevant texts will be announced beforehand.

The various sessions will be held on the following days:

  •  Wednesday, September 19th

 “Western Civilization” ( Homer)

  • Wednesday, November 14th

Tragedy and Comedy (Aeschylus, Sophocles, Aristophanes)

  •  Wednesday, December 5th

Cultural Appreciation vs. Cultural Appropriation (Ovid, Virgil)
