Can Everyone in a Community Be Truly Happy?

Is it possible for everyone to be equally happy, and for no one’s happiness to encroach on that of another? What role might crime and sacrifice play in founding a community? Is it realistic to aspire to live in a world without suffering, and would we want to live in such a world? Join us for a discussion of Ursula Le Guin’s “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas” with Dr. Nicole Callahan (Columbia) as we continue to explore how literary imagination enriches moral inquiry.

The discussion is open to undergraduates and recent alumni, and will take place online via Zoom. Please sign up for our mailing list to receive the link and the readings.
