It’s rare when one of the greatest spiritual autobiographies of all time takes place in your backyard. The Seven Storey Mountain follows Thomas Merton’s journey from a childhood in France through a Columbia English major to the Trappist Abbey of Gethsemani in Kentucky. Join Nathaniel Peters (Morningside Institute) and David Oakley (Merton Institute) as we read Merton’s classic over break and discuss it in the first weeks of classes.

On Friday, January 19th at 2:00 PM, we will be meeting at the Merton Institute (located here) for the first session of our series. We’ll be reading and discussing the first three chapters of the book (up to page 144 of this edition).
