The ancient philosophical style known as Pyrrhonian skepticism centers on the idea that we would be better off if we could live without dogmatic commitment. But even this idea looks like a dogmatic commitment! Moreover, it seems like going about life in an ordinary way involves making up your mind about how things are. Does the skeptic really suspend judgment on everything? What is the alternative to dogmatism meant to be? This seminar considers how a Pyrrhonian skeptic can answer these questions and how this approach would shape the skeptic’s view of academic inquiry and our political lives.
For this session, read Sextus Empiricus, Outlines of Pyrrhonism: Book I (selections)
On Wednesday, April 15, at 6 PM, join Morningside and Dhananjay Jagannathan (Hunter) for this discussion of Pyrrhonian skepticism.
